Module 2: How do I introduce cereal and solid foods to my baby?

Home > Module 2

Module Objective

After completing the module, parents will be able to identify what solid foods to provide to their baby first.

Watch this video to learn more about introducing solid foods to your baby:

Introduce one new food at a time and never in a bottle. Wait a few days before introducing any other new foods in case of a food allergy.

The best foods to start with are iron-fortified cereals and pureed meats, because they have protein, iron, and vitamins. You can then slowly introduce vegetables and fruits. Babies often like pureed sweet potatoes, squash, applesauce, bananas, peaches, and pears.

Do not worry if your baby does not like the foods you are introducing at first. It sometimes takes 15-20 tries of a new food before most babies will accept it, so don’t give up!
